It might be quite far fetched at this point, some people might even say, "straight outta sci-fi" but guess what, we can actually predict the movies' performance in Box Office looking at the reviews people post on twitter, facebook and even blogs.
What if I told you that one fine day, people would probably be checking word-of-mouth to exactly predict the score of the movie. I mean, I want that to happen but economics man... It takes sharp turns.
One might ask... why Movies?
What would you have me do? We know that political system is rigged. Stock prices have too many variables and God forbid, it includes gore of nastiest kinds. Finally transport system are too well arranged that no matter how much we try, people are going to rush at the rush hours.
One might ask... Movies... why?
O you mean... I'm sorry there, couldn't understand question. Yeah, movies have a pattern. Let it be the studio or the director or the people on the screen or some people at the back or whatever/ There are patterns, classifiable, predictable and most importantly understandable patterns. Also, everyone loves to write some stuff about movies on the twitter, lots of chaos. Amidst that chaos, there is a constant entity that is dynamic but again, understandable. That entity is people. We are diverse, unique, tasteful, different and in this case clustered.
Movies tell us what people are, what the society is. I mean, we all know, some of the critical masterpieces in film get trashed in India. Don't get me wrong, we also saw fate of Mr. Nobody, Splice and The curious case of Benjamin Button. It happens more in India. It tells us that there is a factor to the cast more than what meets the eye. Jai Ho was a flop. Why? Well, arguments apart, we still don't know.
There must be something to the region where film pushes enthusiasm. No offense but Bhojpuri films are a joke They have potential but they choose not to evaluate. Same in Kannada (Sandalwood). It took a decade to come up with Lucia. Inception arguments aside, it takes creativity to convince the audience at an enormous rate.Wait... doesn't cinematography, discography and VFX count?
Well Eega had a pretty simple concept and visually aesthetic execution. It grossed what it could. It was fun and kind of reminded old school storytelling. One thing that still boggles me is why a dad chose to tell a kid, a story of unrequited love, as a bed time story? It doesn't make sense, but was fun for children and parents alike. Yeah love birds too. Bahubali took same direction as that of Magadheera and Yamadonga but relied on story. It scored over its budget.
You made it here listening to my rants, I appreciate that. What I just spoke is qualitative, my opinion. You might agree or disagree in part somewhere. All I am trying to do is to tell you if your voice actually counts, literally.
Are we spending our money to watch same boring things just to be more lazy or are we spending it in the right direction? Are the studios consumer-aware or consumer-responsible? Now, for a human, a partial judge, it forms an opinion. Fortunately for a computer system, it makes a thesis.
Welcome to our world, our blog and our creation, "Didn't think of a name yet!"
I hope this would make you feel special, because behind every frame on the screen, it's your story.
